This is my first fanfic (and my first post) on Herchaven! I was going to put this on Fanfiction.net but decided to see what you guys thought about it first.
couple of notes: Herc is 21 and Meg is 18. I'm not sure how many chapters there will be (I'm not sure how to end it either). Little or none of this is mythologically accurate. Oh, well. On with the fanfic!
Chap. 1.
Megara awoke to a blinding light. She rubbed her eyes and realized that the maids had opened one of the curtains in her room. Meg sat up, ran a hand through her long brown hair and looked around at her extravagant bedroom. I'm never going to get used to this, Meg thought.
Megs mother, Maria, had married King Creon almost two years ago and Meg had no choice but to move into the palace with her. She disapproved of her mothers relationship with the king from the start but Maria wouldn't hear of it; saying it was the road to a better life for the both of them. She said that every time they moved to a different country.
They had to after Megs father died when she was only three. Maria did her best but they simply couldn't afford to live in their home anymore. So she sold their house, with their furniture, and used the money to buy a horse and chariot. They lived their lives as immigrants, traveling from their hometown of Barcelona, Spain to France where they stayed until Meg was eight. Maria worked odd jobs and sold handmade jewelery on the street. When Meg was old enough she would help her mother make cloth dolls and other trinkets to sell, but it wasn't enough. Eventually they had to share a roof with other immigrant families who spoke various languages. Meg never complained though since she mostly kept to herself anyway. They then traveled to Rome but didn't stay their long.
Buy the time they moved to Greece, Meg was almost fourteen and growing tired of constantly moving from country to country. Maria decided that Greece would become their new home; specifically, Thrace. And so the next two years were the best of Megs life. Meg and her mother got jobs cleaning the villa of a wealthy politician, which meant that they also were allowed to live there. While they were there, the other maids taught Meg and her mother basic reading and writing. That was also were they met Creon.
End Chap. 1.
I know it's short but i'll have plenty of time this weekend to update. Comments? Suggestions?

Here's the next chapter. I've decided to call the politician Meg and her mother are working for 'Jason' (not Jason of the Argonauts).
Chap. 2.
Meg had just finished washing the breakfast dishes when her mother ran into the kitchen.
"Megara, there you are!"
Meg rolled her eyes. She was sixteen now and she didn't like people using her full name, even her mother.
"yes, ma?"
"Sir Jason is planing a large feast tonight for..."
"Himself?," Meg interrupted.
"Megara!"
"What?," Meg replied innocently. Meg was growing into a beautiful young woman, with violet eyes and long brown hair. Unfortunately for others, she was also growing very sarcastic.
"You know 'what'. As long as we live here you will show respect to our employer, understand?,"
Meg sighed,"Yes, ma'am"
"Good. Now...," Maria looked around the kitchen."...what should we fix for dinner tonight?"
Meg and her mother worked in the kitchen getting things ready while the other maids set the table and cleaned the floor of the ballroom. By the time everything was ready, guests were starting to arrive. Maria and several other maids took the guests coats while Meg changed into her simple black maids uniform.
Among the guests was King Creon. He was a heavy-set middle aged man with jet black hair that was just starting to turn gray. He carried an air of authority about him that made most commoners stay out of his way, which was just the way he liked it. One of the maids reached to take his cloak but he roughly pushed her away, saying, "keep your hands off me, peasant!" The maid bowed her head and uttered apologies to the king. Creon turned his back to her and marched down the hall and into the dining room.
Dinner passed relatively slowly, at least to Meg it did. It seemed that everyone took turns telling how great they were or how much money they spent that week. Jason had ordered her and several other maids to stand by the kitchen until they were needed, so Meg had to listen to every last boring word. While Meg was leaning against the wall trying to keep herself awake, she saw one of the guests looking at her mother. Her mother was busy serving another guest so she didn't notice, but Meg did. The guest called Meg over and asked, "Who is that woman over there?," He gestured with his hand in Marias direction.
Meg hesitated,"uh, Maria, sir. She's my..."
"Maria." Creon said gently. "Tell her to meet me in the ballroom after dinner."
Who does this guy think he is!?, Meg thought.
"I'm afraid she might be busy cleaning...,"
"just do it!," Creon said in loud enough to attract the attention of some of the other guests.
Meg stiffly said, "yes, sir." And walked back to the kitchen. Maria walked in after her. "What did that man want?" She asked.
"He wants to meet you in the ballroom after dinner." Meg said before she could stop herself. "Oh." Was all Maria could say.
The next few weeks went by fast. Megs mother went from single to engaged to married in the same season. "You don't have to do this, you know," Meg tried to tell her, but Marias mind was already made up.
And so here Meg was, almost two years later, living in a palace with her mother and stepfather, with a new sibling on the way. And yet, she was far from happy.
End Chap. 2.
This chapter was a lot longer than I intended it to be. I kinda wanted to rush along to where she first meets Herc. I'll just try to stick it in the next chapter. Still need suggestions/comments.

I had to modify the second-to-last sentence in chapter 2. so Meg doesn't know whether she's having a brother or sister. Sorry. (kinda new at this ) Glad to see that people are reading this. Chap. 3. Meg got out of bed and looked out the window at the sundial. It read eleven-thirty. Oh, darn it!, she thought as she remembered she was supposed to have breakfast with her parents. Meg opened her closet and picked out an emerald green dress with gold accents around the waist and loose sleeves that cut off at the elbow. It was one of the few dresses in her closet that she actually liked. She hated fancy dresses but the king wouldn't let her wear simple or "commoner's" clothing. She slipped the dress on and was sitting on the bed brushing her hair when she heard a soft knock on her door. "Come in." Her mother walked into the room and gently closed the door behind her. "Megara..." "I didn't miss it on purpose this time. Honest." Meg said in the sweetest voice she could manage. Maria didn't buy it for a second. "Meg can't you at least try to make this work? Creon is doing his best to be a father to you." "He's not my father." Meg said as she continued to brush her hair. Maria was starting to lose her patience, "Don't be ungrateful. He's given us more than we ever hoped for...," Maria looked down at her swollen stomach. "...or deserve." Meg turned to look at her mother, "Did he tell you that?" When Maria didn't answer Meg got up and embraced her mother. After a few moments Meg held her mother by her shoulders so she could look into her light brown eyes. "We don't have to stay here, you know." "But..." "As long as were together I'll be happy. And we can raise the kid by ourselves." "Maybe..." But Maria was cut off by a loud knocking at the door. "Megara! Open this door now!" Creon yelled. Meg turned the handle of the door and the king pushed his way in. Creon looked at Maria, "Get out." Meg could tell from the quiver in his voice that he was trying to keep his temper. But it only lasted until Maria left the room. Creon turned to wards Meg, "Listen, you ungrateful little witch. I've had enough of this attitude of yours." He took a step toward her but Meg held her ground and looked him straight in the eyes, "You think I want to be here with you? Don't flatter yourself." Meg put down her brush and reached for the door but he grabbed her wrist and pulled her close to his face. He lowered his voice, "Do you want a one-way trip back to Spain without your mommy, instead?" Meg scowled at him and tried to pull away but he continued to grip her wrist harder. Meg was about to call for help when there was another knock on the door. Creon opened the door, "What do you want?!" He yelled to the palace guard standing before him. "Uh...your chariot is ready, sir." Creon glared at Meg as he released her wrist and followed the guard down the hallway. She firmly shut the door and locked it. I've got to get out of here, Meg thought as she rubbed her sore wrist. End Chap. 3. For some reason this chapter is very different from the one I wrote down on paper. Same basic idea, though. Hope you like it.

I've decided to just write down chapters as they come to me, instead of writing them down first. Obviously, I was just wasting paper . The inspiration for chapter 3 is courtesy of Mariah Carey's "Side Effects". (I was listening to it over and over again). The inspiration for this chapter is courtesy of "Hercules". (I'm watching the movie while writing this chapter.) Chap. 4. Meg walked to the window and opened it; looking out at the large garden. Beyond the garden wall, she could see the hustle and bustle of Thrace. Just one day. If I could spend just one day out of this...prison..., Meg took a deep breath and closed the window. She pulled her hair into a ponytail and went down into the kitchen, where she found her mother washing dishes. "Don't we have servants for that?" Meg said as she picked an apple from the bowl of fruit on the counter. "Oh, Meg," Maria turned to greet her daughter. "I was hoping that, after lunch, we could go into town to do some...uh...shopping." Meg paused; the apple half-way to her mouth. "You mean, like, outside? In the city?" Meg had rarely been outside the palace. And even when she was, she was heavily guarded and wasn't allowed to talk to anyone except her mother. Maria nodded her head, "Your fath...I mean, Creon took most of the guards with him on his trip to Sparta. I bet if we went out the back door we could..." "Let's go." ~Meanwhile~"Are you sure the palace is this way?" Hercules asked Phil as they walked among the people of Thrace. This was the first time since he had become a hero that he'd left Thebes. His trainer insisted that he become more familiar with his fans so he organized an "Around Greece in 80 Days" tour where Herc would meet with fans, kings, and emperors. Herc thought it was a bad idea from the start but Phil wouldn't take no for an answer and Herc didn't want to let him down. It was only day 1 and they were already lost. "Uh..." Phil said as he looked at the map. Herc took the map from his hands. "I think you would read it better if it weren't turned upside down." Herc turned the map the right way and handed the it back to him. "Right." Phil looked at the map again, "I think we took a wrong turn back there." He jerked his thumb behind him. Herc gently turned Pegasus around, which was quite difficult among the crowds of people. Honestly, Herc really didn't mind being lost in the city. The people of Thrace weren't familiar with him like they were in Thebes so he didn't have to worry about getting mobbed. Even so, he wore a long dark blue cape to hide his armour underneath. Herc looked at his Pegasus, who was obviously not used to walking instead of flying. "Can't Pegasus just fly us to the palace?" "And get shot out of the sky? No way, kid. Creon keeps his palace guarded at all times, and doubt he'll hesitate to shoot down a horse flyin' over his property." Herc sighed. "Can we at least ask for directions?" Phil looked at the map again and crumpled it in frustration."Oh, alright. But make it quick, we don't got all day." ~Back at the palace~Meg held Marias hand and put her other around her back to support her as they slowly walked up to the soldier guarding the back door. "Is she alright?" Asked the guard. "I think she is ill," Meg said as her mother started to cough. "She needs to see a doctor immediately." The guard looked at Maria. "Alright. But I'm going with you." Meg nodded her head as the guard led them through the back entrance and past the back gate. As soon as they were near the street, Meg gasped. "Oh no! I forgot to tell the other guards where we were going." She turned to the guard. "I don't want them to worry about us. Why don't you go and tell them." The guard hesitated. "We'll wait right here." She reassured him. But as soon as the guard was out of sight, Meg practically dragged her mother around the corner and didn't stop until the palace was out of sight. End Chap. 4. Herc is finally in the story! Hope you like it! Still need comments/suggestions.

This story is going to be longer than I thought. Still haven't had writers block (yet) so...
Here's the next chapter!
Chap. 5.
Meg leaned her back against a wall to catch her breath, even though they only ran a few blocks. I've got to get out more, she thought. Maria leaned on the wall next to her, holding her stomach.
"We didn't have to run that fast. You think running while carrying a child is easy?"
"Sorry." Meg said sincerely, "But we can't stop here, we're too close to the palace."
Meg reached into the purse she brought with her and pulled out a bag of coins. "Want a pita? It's on me."
"Where did you...?"
"From Creons secret stash." She gave her mother a sly look, "Guess where it is."
Maria thought for a moment. Then they said, simultaneously, "Under his mattress!" They laughed as they walked toward the heart of the city.
~in the heart of the city~
"Excuse me, sir?" Herc asked an old man selling fruit. "Can you direct me to the palace?" "What?" The old man yelled putting a hand to his ear.
"I said, 'Can you direct me to the palace?' Herc repeated. "What?" The old man said, again.
"Alright, thanks." Phil said, walking away and pulling his pupil with him. "Hope I never get that old." Herc just chuckled in agreement, realizing that he had no idea how old Phil was.
Suddenly, a scream erupted from the crowd. "Thief! Thief!"
Herc turned toward the noise as a man in dark clothes rushed pass. A plump woman ran up to Herc, breathing heavily. "That man took my purse!" Hercules immediately ran after the thief.
"Kid, we don't have time for..." Phil started, but Herc had already disappeared into the crowd.
~in a shop nearby~
Meg looked at her reflection in the mirror. She had finally decided on a dress she liked; a purple one with a violet sash around the waist that almost matched her eyes perfectly. She spun in a circle, causing the dress to flutter out.
"I love it."
"Megara, I've never seen you act so...girly." Maria said as she walked out of the dressing room. She wore a navy blue dress with flowing sleeves and a gold band just above her stomach.
Meg pulled herself away from the mirror and grabbed their shopping bags. "Don't get used to it." Meg paid the shopkeeper and they left the store.
End Chap. 5.
