Yeah, he was trying to find the one place he belonged, and he thought becoming a God and joining his family on Olympus. Then he realized home is where the heart is...and his heart is with Meg.

It could have gone either way in my opinion. I think he would have been perfectly happy on Olympus if Meg didn't exist. I mean...he could still visit all of his Mortal friends and his Mortal Parents. But you can't really have a good mariage living in two different places like that.
